On June 23-26, was held in Dakar, Senegal, the 3rd edition of the International Health Summit of Dakar (SISDAK). This summit was organised under the patronage of UNICEF, UNAIDS, and West African Health Organisation (WAHO). The topic addressed was “Quality Approch in reaching the Millennium Development Goals”.

PESINET was invited by Cheikh Tidiane CISSE, Coordinator of the International Alliance for the Millenium Development Goals in Senegal (AIODM SENEGAL) to present its activities.
Co-organized by the International Center for Foreign Exchange and the MInistry for Prevention and Healthcare of Senegal, the 3rd edition was attended by representatives of the national authorities, distinguished key figures in the healthcare sector in the region, technical and financial partners, NGOs, students, but also telecom operators involved in e-health.
An exhibition space including a hundred boothes showcased technological innovations (New Information and Communication Technologies, medical equipement), communication tools for healthcare behaiour change, information on prevention practices, etc.
Cheick Mohamed PANO, program supervisor on the pilot site, was invited to present PESINET as part of the international conference. The objective was to share PESINET innovative experience in facilitating prevention, d early – detection and eraly-care of children diseases through the use of information and communication technologies (internet and mobile technologies). A large audience comprising professors and doctors in healthcare, non-profits, experts, researchers, and members of the Ministry of Prevention and Healthcare in Senegal attended Cheick’s presentation.
Following the presention, Cheick had the opportunity to answer numerous questions from the audience on the PESINET intervention (in particular the relevance of adding a growth measurement to imporve the monitoring of children nutritional status), on the economic sustainability of the model (price of the monthly fee, fee collection techniques) as well as perspective and challenges for scaling-up the program uin rural zones of Mali, or other African countries, etc.
Through the variety of experiences presented, this conference demonstrated the significant contribution of new technologies in the healthcare sector. The opportunity to participate in the event was sincerely appreciated by PESINET team and allowed the program to gain further visibility at regional level in West Africa. The PESINET program received great feedback from the audience who perceived it as a relevant strategy to implement a quality approach within healthcare structures in Mali.
